Dates for the diary and congratulations this month.

Annual General Meeting

The AGM will be on Monday 23rd April, at the YMCA Sovereign Centre. You will be receiving the formal notification and supporting documents at the beginning of April, but one topic for discussion will be ways to encourage members, parents & friends to volunteer for club activities. Your committee have already discussed and have a number of ideas, which will be presented at the AGM.

The AGM is also when we elect the new committee. We will require at least two new faces this year, as Christian Froggatt and Ronnie Murray will not be standing again. My thanks to both of them for everything they’ve done for the club whilst they’ve been on the committee. If you want to know more about what being on the committee entails, please contact me, Ginevra Stoneley or any other current committee member.

Membership

We are planning to offer renewals via direct debit from this year onwards. Please look out for an e-mail in early April giving further information and details on how to set up the direct debit.

Congratulations

It was my great pleasure to be able to join Dave Mills to present the Junior Section endurance awards back in February. The awards were presented to Lucy Denece and Matthew Pickering (U13), Lucy Broderick and Oli Mooney (U15) and Emelye Kenyon-Brown (U17).

Highlights for the year were Lucy’s win in the Surrey Schools X-C  championships and Matthew’s first place in the West Midlands Inter-counties match, running for Surrey Schools.

Lucy Denece, Emelye and Matthew were joined by Noah Young to compete in the recent English National Cross-Country Championships at Parliament Hill. For the seniors, Ronnie Murray, Steve Bass, Max Olive and Tom Almond competed in the senior men’s race, whilst Annette Morris was our sole representative in the senior ladies. This race and venue are the ultimate cross-country experience, well done to everyone who ran.

The RPAC vest was also prominent in the recent Kowloon half marathon, as the race was won by our own George Roux, in a time of 1 hour 14 minutes. Congratulations George, it’s great to see the club gaining publicity in far flung places!

Summer race programme

The juniors will be competing in a number of track & field leagues this year:

  • Lily B (Girls only, age groups U15 and lower)
  • Ebbisham Boys League (U15 and lower again)
  • Youth Development League, Lower Age Group (boys & girls, U15 and lower)
  • Youth Development League, Upper Age Group (a joint team with other local clubs, girls and boys, U17 upwards)

The older athletes in the Junior Academy are also able to compete in the some of those leagues, plus there are other specific competitions organised for the Academy.

The club will also be focusing on a number of local open meetings and the Surrey Championships. It is expected that all juniors will compete for the club, so please look at the calendar for the dates and get the relevant ones in your diaries. Note that those for the Ebbisham Boys League and YDL Lower Age Group have not yet been added, they will follow soon.

The club also competes in the Southern Athletics League (a joint team with Holland Sports and Dorking & Mole Valley), this league is open to both seniors & juniors (U17 upwards), so an opportunity for the junior and senior sections of the club to compete together! Full details and dates are on the website.

Finally for Track & Field, we have joined the Southern Veterans AC Track & Field League for the first time this year. An opportunity for our veteran runners (35 and upwards) to compete on the track, either to rekindle your past or to experience the track for the first time! Full details are again on the website, but there are 4 fixtures on a Monday evening at various local tracks.

The seniors will also be competing in the Surrey Road League again this year, with both ladies and men planning to turn out a strong team in as many of the races as possible. Nat Wilson and Steve Bass have already sent out e-mails about these races, but if you want to check the dates, they are also on the website.

Again for the seniors, the Club Championship road races are the Dorking 10 (mile), Ranelagh Richmond 10k and the Reigate Half Marathon (despite being the day after the Surrey Road Relays). The Grand Prix will also run again this year, with your best 5 out of 8 results count to the competition. Full details for Club Championships and Grand Prix are also available on dedicated pages on the website.

MABAC League

Our MABAC race on 4th March unfortunately had to be cancelled because of the weather conditions. It is possible (but currently unlikely) that we will be able to reorganise later in the year.

The next MABAC race is the Cranleigh 15/21, on Sunday 25th March. This is an open race, to raise funds for MABAC so the other races are free to enter. We need to provide at least 2 marshals for this, if you are available to help or you are racing and your partner or a friend is able to help, please e-mail our MABAC team (see e-mail version of this update for their e-mail address).

Summary Minutes

Summary minutes are now available for both the January and February committee meetings (website login required).
