Club AGM, Monday 23rd April 2018

I'll start this month by reminding everyone that it is the club AGM this coming Monday, 23rd April. 6.30 pm for 7 pm at the YMCA Sovereign Centre, Slipshatch Road, Reigate.

One major item on the agenda is a discussion about volunteering, and how we  can encourage members and parents to volunteer on a more regular basis. This topic will be introduced with a presentation, which is available on the website for you to preview - please see the e-mail version of this update for the link.

This presentation includes the result of a recent brainstorm by your committee, some of the options may appear to be somewhat unpalatable to many members and parents! I would therefore encourage everyone to look at the presentation and to attend the AGM to provide your feedback and suggestions.

On the topic of volunteering, please note that we will need at least 2 new people to stand for election to the committee, as both Christian Froggatt and Ronnie Murray are standing down as of the AGM. My thanks to both of them for their service to the club.

Finally, I am also aware that the club constitution as it currently stands does not give the parents / guardians of our junior members the ability to vote at the AGM, unless they are a full member in their own right. Thus it is currently possible for the senior members to agree changes to the club with very limited input from the junior section and junior academy. I would welcome feedback from the junior section / junior academy, either before or at the meeting, as to whether this is an acceptable situation. To give me feedback before the meeting, simply reply to my e-mail.

Southern Athletics League

A mixed junior and senior team of over 10 athletes competed at the Southern Athletics League match last Saturday, helping the combined Dorking / Holland Sports / RPAC team to 2nd place, only just behind the winners Cambridge Harriers.

Apologies that I can't mention everyone, but there were 1st place finishes for all of Lucy Broderick (twice), Jo Davey, Emelye Kenyon-Brown, Anousha Wardley and Drew Burridge, whilst it was really good to see Colin Kloes reliving his youth in the sprints (rather than his more recent endurance events).

Marathons

Congratulations to all the club members who have competed in the recent Brighton, Manchester and Paris marathons. Highlights from these are Max Olive's 2:56 at Brighton and Kate Knight completing her 50th marathon in the same race.

Good luck to the many members who are running in London this Sunday (22nd), I hope the weather cools down a bit before then (which I didn't think I would be saying just 1 week ago!). This will be Kate's 51st marathon, 1 week after Brighton.

Jimmy James Handicap

Finally, congratulations to Anthony Collins, who won the Jimmy James Handicap 2017/18 by just 1 point from Bethany Higgins. Commiserations to Bethany, who had established a commanding lead after the first 4 races, but was unable to run the last 2 through injury.
