There were plenty of new Surrey yellow vests on show as the Surrey Schools Year 7 and Year 8 cross country teams took on Sussex, Kent, Hampshire and Essex at the South East Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships. Held at Christ's Hospital School near Horsham, the course was flat and fast on a firm grass surface and run in dry, sunny conditions. Selection is based on the results of the Surrey Schools Cross Country Championships held in January and entry to that race only comes with finishing high in the district races held before Christmas.
First off was the year 7 girls race and a strong run by Shakila Keable saw her finish 18th out of 89 runners and help the Surrey team to a 1st place finish!
Three from RPAC had been selected for the Surrey Y7 boys team and Samuel Stapley, Sam Rolaston and Will John-Cox performed well to help Surrey to 2nd place behind Hampshire. Samuel and Sam were close to each other all the way round to finish 23rd and 27th respectively, again in a race with 89 runners.
Gus Lewis ran well in the year 8 boys race helping Surrey to a 4th place in the team results.
