Following the qualifying heats in June, two RPAC teams made it to the South Surrey Quad Kids Final held at Guildford on Wednesday 4 July. The format was 8 teams of ten athletes, 5 boys and 5 girls, with each athlete doing a 75m sprint, a 600m, a standing long jump and a Howler throw.

After they had won their heat we had hopes of the A team winning a medal for the first time, but we were up against strong competition from Guildford, Epsom and Camberley, all of whom had been in the other qualifying heat.

Our athletes excelled themselves. Travis Bateman was second fastest overall in the sprint and had the second best long jump. This placed him third overall in the boys event. Max Orchard was sixth overall, which is a tremendous achievement for a year 4 athlete up against year 5 and 6's. Sam Stapley had the second fastest 600m overall and achieved a gold standard score as did Harry Peters. Kai Adams also scored very strongly.

Amongst the girls Alessia Turner and Shakila Keable performed hugely impressively, scoring highly in all events and finishing third and fifth overall respectively. Holly Elliott and Lily Woodhams also competed very strongly, achieving gold standards and ensuring that in aggregate the team amassed an impressive score.

At the final analysis we learnt that we had won the silver medal, beaten only by the hosts Guildford Young Athletes Club.

There was also a number of impressive performances from our second team. Sam Rolaston achieved a PB in the 600m and had the third fastest time overall on the night. Pollyanne Stott scored strongly across all events, achieving a gold standard and Charlotte Pelekani and Daisy O'Brien only just missed out on this, achieving a silver standard score. Joel Lawrence and Ollie Burnett scored well and excelled particularly in the 600m with impressive times, likewise Justin Collins who had a particularly impressive score in the long jump.

We also had a number of younger athletes, Will Shortall, Amelie Lawrence and Henry Stockley, who scored well and will be eligible to compete again next year.
