Four young athletes from RPAC won selection to the Surrey Schools XC Team for the prestigious English Schools National XC Championships. This year the event was held at the Norfolk County Showground near Norwich. Without doubt, when it comes to the major Championships over the season, this is the 'big one' for most of our runners. Taken out of school on Friday lunchtime, the team travel by coach for an overnight stay at a hotel near to the venue. On the morning of the race there is an inspirational team meeting and the atmosphere at the races is described by the competitors as second to none.
The strength of Surrey Cross Country running was once again in evidence. With 44 counties taking part, and over 340 finishers in each race, Poppy Wardley (130) in the Intermediate Girls race was part of the Surrey team that took Gold. Felix Vaughan (41) in the Junior Boys race part of the Surrey team that also took Gold, and Lucy Broderick (59) and Pippa Roessler (112) were in the Surrey Junior Girls team that finished 3rd.
Next Saturday Felix and Pippa run again when it is the turn of our Y8 and Y7 runners, (plus a couple from Y6!) to represent Surrey Schools when they race against Sussex, Hampshire, Kent and Essex in our own Reigate Priory.
