A  hot and sunny day meant this year's first Lily B League match of the season took place in ideal conditions at Ewell on Saturday. Bolstered by a large contingent of Under 11's, the RPAC team enjoyed a good day competing in track and field events.

There were many notable performances, including from several athletes competing in the league for the first time. Amongst so much potential shown by the under elevens, the older girls didn't disappoint and the Under 17's had some particularly outstanding results. In the 300m hurdles Lily Grant and Katie Mackison both achieved personal best's. Lily's time takes her to number 2 in the club's records for the event (behind Sophie Elliss who at U17 represented England at hurdles in the Schools International in 2015). For Katie there was also a PB and new club record (again!) in the javelin with a throw of 40.25 metres. Katie is now ranked 3rd in the UK for the event. Lucy Broderick won the U17 800m by a distance with a seasons best time of 2.19.9.

All three girls are now set up nicely for next weekend's Surrey Championships.

Highlights amongst the under 15's included two PB's for Eva Marsh, in the 800m and the long jump, and a first league appearance by Jasmine Foster who performed well in the long jump, shot and 800m. The 800m race completed despite losing a shoe at the start when someone trod on her heel. Jasmine ran the whole race with a shoe missing!

Under 15's Erin Taylor--Benson in the High Jump and 800m, and Imogen Gregory in the Long Jump and 1500m also performed well in their first league outings. There was another good double from Joely Watkinson with a fast 1500m time and a good throw of over 18m in the Javelin.

Amongst the Under 13 highlights were two PB's for Francesca Manrow, in the 200m and the discus, and two fast races run by Shakila Keable in the 200 and the 800m's. We were spoilt for choice in the 200m with Ella Scrase and Jessica Basnett also competing. Both Ella and Jessica also took part in the long jump. Caitlin Evans was our U13 100m runner with a time table clash with long jump meaning Jessica missed out. Lucy Dénéce and Zara Watkinson doubled up in the 1500m and Javelin with good results.

We had U11'S competing in the 75m, the 600m and in the long jump.

Yasmin Badawi had a particulaly good day, competing in all three events with 2.90 in the long jump, 12.0 in the 75m and 2.09.6 for the 600m. Others to do especially well in the 75m were Imogen Wheeler with a time of 11.9 and Harriet Thynne with 12.1. In the 600m there were particularly good times run by Holly Elliott with 2.08.1 and Daisy O'Brien with 2.09.6 (the same time as Yasmin). Harriet also had one of the leading scores in the long jump with 2.86 with Imogen jumping 2.65 and Amelie Lawrence, 2.50 and Emily Sheard with 2.49 also doing well.

Ruthie Lewis ran a good 600m race on her eighth birthday! Our youngest competitor.

The U11'S also ran a fantastic 4 x 100m relay!

Thanks as ever go to those parents who helped with the officating and especially to Kirsten Mackison for managing the team. This involved Kirsten running to and from the scorers office on many occasions to amend/update our team sheet with changes and late entries.

The next Lily B League match is in Croydon on Saturday 2nd June. Let Kirsten know as soon as you like if you want to compete!
