URGENT: Volunteers needed for MABAC and Border League events on 3rd March

We're getting desperate: On Sunday, 3rd March, RPAC will be hosting a double-header in Priory Park, starting with the senior MABAC race at 10 am, followed by the junior Border League races from 12 to 2 pm. Experience tells us that we need lots of volunteers to stage these event and so far, we do not have enough people signed up. Please help - it's a unique opportunity for junior parents to help at the senior fixture to allow seniors to run and for senior members to help at the Border League races so that parents can watch their children compete.
If you can help, please sign up here: We will need help transporting equipment from Battlebridge on Saturday afternoon, laying out the courses, marshalling at both fixtures, breaking down the courses, and transporting equipment back to Battlebridge. It will be possible to fulfil some of these roles and also run or spectate.

Surrey Rights of Way consultation

Surrey County Council is responsible for around 2,164 miles of public paths and is currently working on updating its improvement plans for them. Anyone who uses these public rights of way - and that's most of us who run - can have a say in how they're cared for: Respond to this survey by 10 March.

Reigate Priory parkrun anniversary, 23rd March

The 10th anniversary of Reigate Priory parkrun is on Saturday, 23rd March; it's also the day after Paul Walters' birthday and his first event as a MV60. The plan now is for a gazebo in the park for a post-run breakfast - all club members and families are invited and very welcome! If you've got an RPAC running top, this would be the day to wear it - let's show off the club colours!

Provisional dates for later RPAC parkrun tourism events are 20th April, 11th May, 8th June, 6th July (possibly East Brighton parkrun), and 7th September. Do please let Paul know if you know of any events that clash with those dates ().

Medals at Chichester 10K

Seven RPAC athletes set out on a "lightning fast" but cold and windy Chichester 10k circuit on Sunday, 4th February. In addition to the open race, the event included the British Masters 10k championships: Nat Wilson found the last 2k "challenging" after her injuries in 2023, but nevertheless came away with a W45 silver medal after an excellent comeback time of 39:46 (chip time 39:37). Not far behind was Ginevra Stoneley in 39:59 (chip time 39:47), earning herself the W45 bronze medal. Annette Morris finished 6th in her category, W65, in 51:55 (chip time 51:22, beating her own 10K club record). As a composite W45 team - with Annette competing two decades below her age bracket - they won another silver medal; Ginevra, meanwhile, proceeded to run another 7 miles as part of her marathon training. For the men, Neil Fenwick was the first RPAC finisher and 14th M45 in an excellent time of 36:25 (chip time 36:16). Hugo McLaughlin, making his club 10K debut, ran brilliantly to finish in 39:52 (chip time 39:40) and, also on the comeback trail, was Gavin Lawrence, finishing in 42:14 (chip time 42:21). “Watch this space," says Gavin. Jack Finn ran as the 55-minute pacer, finishing in 54:47 (chip time 54:06). A good day out, according to reporter and chauffeur Stewart McIntyre.

Clarification of the rules for Club Championship races

In order to be eligible to win a Club Championship trophy you must enter a designated championship race as a member of Reigate Priory Athletic Club and you must run in an RPAC vest. The exception to these rules is the club marathon championship, where you can enter any road marathon race that is eligible to be included on the Power of 10 website and you can wear a RPAC vest, a charity vest or a county or country vest. You must still be entered as being a member of Reigate Priory Athletic Club.

Members' news

Rich Friar reports that he ran the brutal-sounding Arc of Attrition trail race on Saturday, 27th January, "a brilliant 51-mile trail race on the South West coast path that goes around Land's End and takes in some of Cornwall's most beautiful, remote, and challenging scenery." Rich finished in 9 hours and 44 minutes, landing in 14th place. Amazing running!
