Club News For Everyone

This will be a very brief newsletter this week as there is no news about training, events, results, social gatherings or any of the other things we normally report on.  I've had to rewrite it in light of the PM's announcement this evening so I'll apologise in advance for any grammatical errors, inaccuracies or if I have phrased things badly.

The first thing to say is that I hope you and your families are all keeping well. What strange and trying circumstances we find ourselves in and let's hope that better times return very soon.

The second thing to say is that whilst we cannot organise training sessions or competitions there is nothing to stop you from running. Even with the new restrictions imposed today you are still  allowed to run once a day. The advice from the Chief Medical Officer and others is that exercise is beneficial for your physical and mental wellbeing (no surprises there). If you do run you must observe the "social distance" regulations and keep at least 2 metres away from everyone else. Over the weekend a member of the public complained to Malcolm that members of the club were running in Priory Park without maintaining the recommended distance between them. With the new restrictions imposed this evening running with friends is not going to be possible, however it is inevitable that you are going to bump into fellow club members when out running; I'd urge you to exercise common sense and give them a friendly wave, exchange some banter from a distance and carry on on your own route.

I was wondering whether we should set up some virtual competitions in the absence of the real thing.   I'm not suggesting that we should all follow the lead of the Frenchman who ran a marathon on the balcony of his apartment, but I was thinking of things like most miles run in a week, fastest mile, earliest run, latest run, etc. If you think this is a good idea let me know, particularly if you can think of some interesting categories

Keep in touch

It's more important than ever that we keep in touch with each other at this time.

Virtual Competitions

As mentioned on the RPAC group Facebook page it is my intention to launch some virtual competitions in the absence of the real thing. These competitions will be open to both junior and senior members.  From today (29/03/2020) I'd like to invite you...
