Club News For Everyone

I hope that this newsletter finds you and your families all keeping fit and well.

A Message From Greg Knott's Widow

We have received the following message from Bernadette Knott

"I haven't heard officially yet re the donations in memory of Greg, but could see that RPAC made a very generous donation to Bude Memory Cafe.

I wanted to say thank you so much to the club.

Greg enjoyed the Memory Cafe as they had lots of different groups and soloists coming in to play or sing. He had lots of friends there.

I've been overwhelmed with messages and cards and people's generosity so please pass on my sincere thanks."

YMCA Virtual Fun Run

Our friends at the YMCA are holding a virtual fun run competition throughout May. There are adult 5 mile and adult and junior 1 mile virtual races to be run over a course of your choosing. Historically the fun runs have always been very well supported by RPAC runners and it is usually part of the senior Grand Prix competition. For the YMCA the fun run is a major fund raising event which sadly this year will not be possible. Let us support them by entering the virtual fun run. The full details are here, but essentially it is free to enter although obviously the YMCA will welcome any donations and fundraising that you may do on their behalf. Let's really get behind this and support this event.

 Notice of AGM

A reminder that the AGM will be held on Monday 18th May via Zoom. Please read the recent emails from Ginevra for full details and the agenda.

Virtual Club Nights

England Athletics is staging a series of "Virtual Club Nights", including quizzes and talks. Details are on the noticeboard.

Guess Who?

Something a bit different this week...here are some well known senior members of the club taken when they were children. See if you can guess who they are. The cheeky chappy on the tricycle says that he was cross training. In the final photo the young lady with the "RR" tag is the club member.

Send your answers to   and if you like this and have some photos of yourself that you would be willing to share please send these in also.

Virtual Competitions

We are running a series of virtual competitions whilst we remain in "lockdown". I am starting to struggle with fresh ideas so I would be very pleased to receive any suggestions you may come up with .

Please observe the  government guidelines on exercising outdoors during the current restrictions.

This week's competition is another orienteering style challenge  run or walk the shortest distance taking in the following - a bus stop, a school, a grave or memorial, a silver birch tree, a pedestrian crossing, a barber's shop or hairdresser's and a children's playground.

Marathon Relay Week 4

This was the final week of our marathon relay challenge.  We didn't get as many entries this week, so I had to work some magic to come up with an overall time. I am sorry to say that we didn't sustain our improvement and came in with a total time of 3 hours 2 minutes, but hey you can't run a PB every week! Well done to George Roux who clocked 5:03 (as part of a 5K run), Alexander Green (5:23) , Duncan Mallinson (5:30). As ever Max Orchard turned in a blistering performance from the junior section (5:44). Well done and a big thank you to all of you for your enthusiasm over the last four weeks.

Last week's long jump challenge  wasn't all that popular

The challenge was to jump as far as you could from a standing position - i.e no run up. Max Orchard was the overall winner with 2:25 metres. Will John-Cox who was the only other junior entrant jumped 2:08. For the adults Jamilla led the pack with 2:13 followed by Stephen Smith (2:08), Adrian Bowden (1:91) and Carol Orchard (1:52). Libby Bowden, who I don't think is a member yet (she's 5), gets a special mention for jumping 0.95m which was a lot further than I managed!

Strava Art Competition

The deadline is the end of April so you still have time to create your masterpiece.

Monthly Distance Challenge Leaderboard

Kate Knight was in pole position with an astonishing 164.3km with Charlie Butcher very close behind with 161.5km. Close behind them were Matt Aylott and Chris Daniels who both logged over 100 km for the week.  Charlie retains the leadership for the month with 571.7 km, Kate is in second position with 532.7 km.

It's more important than ever that we keep in touch with each other at this time. Stay safe everybody. Please let us know if there is anything you'd like to see in the newsletter.
