I hope you are keeping well.
With a bit of luck, we will be able to resume training sessions and even some competition from March 29th onwards, subject to confirmation of proposed dates by the Government. In the meantime, I wanted to confirm that the club AGM date has now been agreed as Monday 26th April, at 6.30pm for a 7pm start, and will once again most likely be held via Zoom - full detail to follow.
A key part of the formal proceedings at our AGM will be the elections to the Committee – including a number of roles required for us to continue to operate as an England Athletics affiliated club, which provides the club and our members with numerous benefits.
IMPORTANT – nominations for club Chair required
After 8 years as Chair for the club (initially for the standard maximum 6-year term, plus an additional 2-year term under the club’s exceptional circumstances clause), this year I will be standing down. I have found my time as club Chair rewarding and personally fulfilling, but whilst I am very proud of the inclusive club we all continue to enjoy today, I look forward to watching the club continue to flourish and grow under new leadership.
Unfortunately, COVID 19 has had a material impact on the succession plans we put in place when I extended my term two years ago, and means we currently have no obvious candidate to take over as Chair.
We are therefore looking for potential candidates to come forward, willing to take on this key role to help continue to lead the club and ensure its future. The role is open to parents of Junior members as well as all Senior and Honorary members. As well as being able to commit the time required for the role and working closely with the other Committee members, the key requirements include being able to track multiple outstanding actions simultaneously and good people management skills.
If you think you might be able to take on this vital role for the club, please contact me as soon as possible to discuss further. A joint nomination to act as co-Chairs could be considered, so as to share the work.
Other committee nominations
To ensure all parts of the club are fully represented, our constitution also requires a further 6 non-executive Committee members, who are elected for a 1-year term. Although some of our current non-executive members are willing to stand again, we are also looking for additional nominations for people to stand for these roles, who again can be Senior or Honorary members or parents of Junior members. Historically the club Committee has been largely composed of Senior or Honorary members, but it is important that there is at least some representation of our Junior members.
If you are interested in standing for one of these non-executive roles, please contact me or Ginevra for further information.
I look forward to hearing from anybody interested in helping the club to continue to deliver our sports of athletics & running to the local communities of Reigate & Redhill; without people willing to take on the roles on the Committee, the club cannot survive – as I am sure other existing Committee members will agree, it can also be very fulfilling (and fun)! Please do not leave it to somebody else to volunteer, if you think you can help the club, then get in touch!
