RPAC regrets to announce the cancellation of the race

SCC Highways have informed RPAC that road improvement works on part of the course, scheduled to end today 30th June, are overrunning and will extend into next week.

A sizeable section of Slipshatch Road, approximately from its junction with Clayhall Lane extending almost as far as Slipshatch Bridge, is subject to single alternate carriageway working, controlled by traffic lights.

Using this section in our race would pose an unacceptable risk to all road users, especially runners, and since SCC cannot give a guaranteed end date, RPAC has decided to cancel next week’s race on safety grounds.

Our race licence covers a specific, officially measured, risk assessed course and there’s insufficient time to arrange an alternative one. Neither, unfortunately, is it considered feasible to stage the race later this year.

One of the race’s T&C’s is to make no refunds in the case of Cancellation. But, in the true spirit of sportsmanship, RPAC will waive this condition and fully refund all entry fees, despite incurring unrecoverable losses.

RPAC is really sorry the disappointment this will cause everyone but feel sure you’ll support our decision to put the welfare and safety of all participants first.

Hope to see you in 2024!
