Summer Evening 10k by Moray Carey, Acting Race Director

It’s only just over 2 weeks until we host the Summer Evening 10k on Wed 6th July!

Currently we have a few more than 100 entries and we need to dramatically increase this number to make this flagship event financially viable.

Way of helping to achieve this include:

  1. Asking in places where you may have connections or contacts to display the A5 race flyer (available on our website here)
  • sports’ clubs (both athletic and other)
  • fitness groups
  • sports’ shops
  • works and community notice boards

2. Sharing any posts about the race posted on the club’s Facebook page (or creating your own)

Thanks in advance!

Moray

Wednesday 15th June - Another U17W'S 800m Club Record set by Lilah

Running at an Open Meeting in Watford last Wednesday evening, Lilah Unwin ran her 3rd 800m PB of the month with a speedy 2.13.31. This set another new Club Record in the U17W'S 800m! Following her string of quick times, Lilah has had her place confirmed in the Surrey Schools team for the English Schools T&F Championships in Manchester next month.

Well done Lilah!

Saturday 18th June - ESAA South East Schools Inter-counties T&F Championships, Kingston

Three RPAC Juniors competed for Surrey in the 800m at the South East Schools Inter-counties match on Saturday.

Lilah Unwin ran another quick time (her third consecutive English Schools entry time) to win the Intermediate Girls 800m, with Ella Scrase also putting in a strong run to finish as the 2nd B string runner home, ensuring they both scored well for the Surrey team.

In the Intermediate Boys 800m Samuel Stapley ran his third consecutive sub 2 min time, finishing 2nd.

Great performances by all three against high quality county standard opposition! They helped Surrey to a match winning performance finishing just ahead of Kent with Hampshire in third place.

Sunday 19th June - Ebbisham Boys League - Sutton

We had a great turn out for the latest Ebbisham Boys league event on Sunday. Unusually for a Club whose strength is normally the endurance races we had some great performances in the sprints and long jump. We won both the U13 A and B sprints and U13 A and B long jump with Michael Maguire and Mateo Mahop winning both their events. Louis Gibson ran PBs in both the 100 and 200m ,as did Max Orchard in the 200m, Evan Moffat in the 100m and Jonah Pocock in both the 100m and 200m.  Mateo/Jonah/Evan and a Dorking athlete, it is a combined team, then comfortably won the 4 X 100m relay to ensure we finished the day on a high.

The endurance runners were not to be outdone Buddy Kedgley took 7 seconds off his 800m PB in winning the U15 800 and Lucian Watkins and James Beatty both ran strong races in the U13 1,500m.

It was good to see a number of U11 athletes competing, some in their first event for the Club. Gillies Macgregor, Piers Matthews, Isaac Armitage and Rafi Varah all ran a very competitive 600m time, finishing within a second of each other. Jake Eggleton and Ludo Blennerhassett achieved PBs in the 75m.

Dorking Tens Sunday 12th June

Some 35 RPAC athletes took part in the two Dorking Tens races yesterday and despite some serious issues with timekeeping we produced some great results and took home a clutch of Surrey County Championship medals. You can read more (and see some pics ) here

Sunday 19th June 10:00AM MABAC @ Holmwood Common

This is our chance to regain second place spot in the league, but we can only do this if we get a good turnout.

At Farnham we lost out to Blackwater Valley because they had twice as many runners as we did. We particularly need more of the ladies to run.

As far as I can tell there are no conflicting local races so why not come and turnout for us?

Meet at Bell St Car Park at 09:00 for lifts and car sharing. Please let me know if you need a lift or are willing to drive others

Southern Athletics League Sunday 12th June

I know that Match 2 took place yesterday, but I have not seen any results from it as yet. I suspect many people will have participated at Dorking instead

Match 3 will take place on Saturday 16th July at K2 Crawley and Match 4 on Saturday 13th August at Hastings.

Please respond to us (the SAL Team Managers, Jo Davey and Ginevra Stoneley) if you would like to compete or if you have any questions

Max Shines at Surrey & Sussex Schools Pentathlon Meeting

Max's Mum Carol Orchard writes :
"Max competed yesterday 1st June at K2 Crawley in the Surrey Schools Pentathlon. Wearing his RPAC vest he did incredibly well. By far the smallest competitor, Max proved that size should never be a hurdle (one of his better events).

Starting the afternoon with a new PB Max highjumped 1.40m to get his campaign off to a good start. 80m hurdles next coming 3rd in his heat with a time of 13.2 sec gave him valuable points on his total. Long jump followed and with a new PB of 5.24m he out jumped the rest of the field to come 1st. Throwing a 4kg shot put for the first time in competition proved a little tricky but 5.95m was certainly a great effort. Lying 4th going into the 800m Max proved again that endurance at the end of 4 other events is always the key and with a time of 2.18.9 gave him a total of 2041 points securing him the bronze medal.
He was in fact the 2nd Surrey athlete in the field as silver went to an athlete from Kent. At a first combined event of this year and at U15 the future looks exciting for Max.

It was an exhausting day for both Max and I and it proves that hard work from Max and his RPAC coaches pays off once again. "

Dave Mills added "Max's performance has earned him a call up to the Surrey Schools team for the English Schools Regional Combined Events Championships being held at K2 over the weekend of 25/26 June. Well done Max! "

Lilah Breaks Club U17W'S  800m Record    -   Again!

Four days after setting a new club U17W'S  800m record at Erith, Lilah was at it again, this time at the Aldershot Open Meeting, where she posted a new PB of 2.14.4.  Lilah is peaking nicely with the Surrey Schools T&F Championships coming up at Kingston on Saturday, followed by an Inter-counties match the following weekend.

Oscar runs big 1500m PB at Watford

Oscar's first 1500m of the season at Watford last Wednesday saw him produce a massive PB finishing in a quick time of 4.07.07. Oscar is in great form!

  • Set up and break-down of the course.

There are also a handful of roles that may be suitable for children/juniors.

We do need a number of people to assist in the set up of the course on Tuesday 5th July from 6pm and on 6th July from 2pm (Battlebridge) or 3pm (Priory Park) so if you can assist with either of those, please respond as such via the link below.

If you wish to run in the race and be cheered on by your fellow club members, friends and/or family en-route, we ask that you to volunteer in some way before or after the race. Alternatively, you can provide a volunteer (or two!) to assist while you're donning your red vest around the streets of Reigate.

If you are available to help in any capacity please register via this link.  There are a number of roles listed and an area where you can state your preference, should you have one.

Thank you in advance for all your help which makes this event a great success.

Give us your results please

If you run in an event, do please let us know your results by emailing . If possible please can you submit them by Sunday evening at the latest as this allows us to meet the deadline for the Surrey Mirror sports pages.

Samuel and Euan Notch Up More PB'S

The South London Athletics Network Open Meeting at Carshalton on Saturday saw Samuel Stapley and Euan Willis in action in the 1500m A race.

For Samuel it was his first 1500m this year and a big PB saw him home in 4.15.26. A time that would have won Gold in the event at the recent Surrey T&F Championships!

Euan added to a string of PB's in the 1500m this year with a new best time of 4.23.36.

Great running by both!

Sunday 19th June 10:00AM MABAC @ Holmwood Common

This is our chance to regain second place spot in the league, but we can only do this if we get a good turnout.

At Farnham we lost out to Blackwater Valley because they had twice as many runners as we did. We particularly need more of the faster ladies to run.

As far as I can tell there are no conflicting local races so why not come and turnout for us?

Sunday 24th July MABAC Surrey Slog Half Marathon

The Surrey Slog Half Marathon is organised by MABAC. It is a major fundraiser for them (in fact it's their only fundraiser this year) and this enables them to stage the regular fixtures throughout the year. As a member club we are required to provide a small number of volunteers to help marshal the race. It takes place around Holmbury Hill near Holmbury St. Mary. If you are able to help out please let me know by emailing .

Thursday 26th May Victory @ The Blue Anchor quiz night

Paul Walters, Usha Stevens, Andrew Bamford, Stewart McIntyre and Sue Carnell formed the "RPAC" quiz team at the Blue Anchor quiz night, our first quiz since the first lock-down.

For those who might remember this was a weekly outing back in the day.

It is £2 per person with up to 6 in a team. We fought off the competition to win the quiz, and the £35 winnings went to the YMCA.

The quiz runs every 2 weeks, so we're now looking forward to quiz night on Thursday 9th June. Let me know if you'd like to take part.

Viv Burgess (pictured above) graduated from the Reigate Priory AC Couch to 5K Programme in July 2021.

Viv found the first week of the Couch to 5K to be a real challenge, stopping in the first minute of running, but after a week or so not only did she find that she could complete the running sessions, but she also discovered how rewarding running was for her.

After completing the course she joined our club and continued running with our groups. She ran the RunReigate 5K race on 19th September 2021 in a time of 51:31, the fastest 5Km she had run by some way.

Unfortunately, Viv has been injured for some time, but she's hoping to be back running with the club soon.

Southern Athletics League, K2 Crawley 22nd May 2022

Southern Athletics League, K2 Crawley 22nd May 2022 from Jo Davey

There was a sea of RPAC vests competing at the SAL yesterday at the K2. We dominated in the middle distance events with commanding performances from our juniors. Lilah Unwin led the whole way in the women’s 800m winning in a season’s best of 2 min 17s. Oscar Curry ran in a similar fashion race winning the men’s A string 1500m followed up by Euan Willis who won the B-string with a great tactical run. In the women’s 1500m Jo Davey was 2nd A-String runner.

In the sprint events another talented junior, Roman Thompson-Lamont ran the 100m & 200m races - a season's best in the 100 of 12.1s and a strong performance also in the 200 (time tbc). Jo Davey ran a PB in the 400m in 65.5s to come 2nd in A-string race.
Laura Ebbs made her track debut in the women’s 3000m (and first time running in spikes!) and had a sterling run finishing 3rd A-string in a time of 11 min 33s.

In the field events Dan Statham unfortunately had to drop out early due to a back injury niggle but still managed to put in a 1 m 65cm jump scoring valuable points for the team.
