Please join me in extending a warm RPAC welcome to the following people who have joined the club very recently as follows...

Celeste Martin, Emelye Camisotti, Edward Smythe, Lucian Watkins, Lara Tombleson, Imogen Rochelle-Ash and Alex Holland.

Apologies if I have missed anyone - let us know who you are and you will get a mention next week

Junior News

Juniors Success - by Dave Mills

There has been more success over the last week on the track for some of our Juniors.

Racing under the floodlights at Blackheath and Bromley last Monday night, Max Orchard and Lilah Unwin both recorded 800m PBs (again)!

Then on Saturday at Herne Hill Harriers, despite the cold and blustery conditions, U15s Shakila Keable and Lilah Unwin battled it out at the front of their 800m race to both record new PBs. For Shakila this was her first track race of the season and for Lilah another in a string of fast times and PBs having competed almost weekly since mid August.

U17 Oscar Curry just missed out on another 800M PB, clocking an impressive 2.07.20.

Junior Training Sessions

Training for the U11s has resumed on Saturday mornings. We are still constrained by EA guidelines as to the permissible number of athletes per coach and so will each week be asking who wishes to attend so that we can manage the numbers.

Senior News

Sonia and Mike's big day!

Hearty congratulations to Sonia and Mike who tied the knot on Saturday.

It wasn't quite the celebration they had planned given the current state of affairs with the world, but they went ahead with their neighbours as guests.

Wishing Jamilla a speedy recovery

Jamilla Ncayiyana took a tumble whilst out running on Sunday morning and fractured her ankle. We believe she put her foot in a hole that was covered in leaves.

We send you the Club's best wishes and hope you'll be back soon Jamilla.

Senior Training Survey

Thanks to everyone (most of you) who have responded to the Doodle poll, if you haven't done so, please can you do it as soon as possible.

You should have received an email from Malcolm about this, but in case you have not the survey can be accessed here.

Surrey Winter Fixtures

As England Athletics have not yet been able to issue permits it has been decided to postpone the Masters Cross-Country Championships.

Currently the proposal is to hold the Masters Cross-Country Championships on 20th February 2021.

The main Cross-Country Championships is planned for 9th January 2021 at Lloyd Park, Croydon; both of which are subject to the latest guidance from EA.

Premium Racing Vests

Tom is in the process of having a small batch of premium quality RPAC vests made by the British company SOAR. These will be an alternative to the current "standard" vests and are ultra lightweight making them perfect for marathons or warmer weather racing. Tom and Fran will have some samples at track sessions over the next couple of weeks so you could try out the sizes and feel the (lack of) weight of the vests if you are interested in ordering one. The cost of the vests is £60 so it is recognised that these won't be for everyone. If you have any questions please contact Tom ()

Kate's Latest Achievement

Last weekend Kate Knight completed the  50Km "Chiltern 50 Action Challenge" in a new PB beating the previous one by 1 hour 15 minutes.

Senior Training Sessions

You can see the participants of the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday coached sessions here. There are now more than 12 participants on each list, and going forward the numbers for each group will depend on participants occasionally not being able to make an individual session (such as holiday or injury) to limit the groups to 12 people per session. If you know that you can't make a particular session please try to let us know so that your place can be reallocated.

Ian Edmonds is now running an additional "Recovery and Improvers" session starting at 6pm on Mondays from Battlebridge. Please note that this is not a track session.

Lament for Parkrun

On 7th September parkrun declared that they were returning in England towards the end of October. On 24th September, given the current circumstances, unfortunately this announcement was rescinded. However, the good new is that Cape Pembroke Lighthouse parkrun did take place in the Falkland Islands with 42 finishers! The results from Saturday are here.  Parkrun tourism anyone! :-)

Keep in touch

It's more important than ever that we keep in touch with each other at this time. Stay safe everybody. Please let us know if there is anything you'd like to see in the newsletter.

If you wish to get in touch our email address is

I hope this newsletter finds you and your families all keeping safe and well. Who knows what the next few days or weeks will bring, but at the moment we are still allowed to operate training sessions as we have been doing. Let's hope it stays that way.

RPAC Officials Back In Action

RPAC track and field officials were back in action at K2 in Crawley last Sunday (13th September), officiating at the Crawley AC Club Championships.

Naomi writes that RPAC were the only club apart from Crawley AC to supply any officials. She adds that there are two schools of thought on this; either Crawley like any other club doesn't have enough officials to run meetings without help, or RPAC officials are so highly regarded that they were the only officials to be invited to help out. We all subscribe to the latter opinion, of course!

From Left to Right Naomi Jones, Ian Crouch, Donna Barrington-Smith and Ivan Barrett.

 Virtual Run Reigate

At the time of writing there are still a few places left for the adult races for Virtual Run Reigate but I believe that the junior races are now sold out. There are 5K, 10K and Half Marathon distances for adults (all £15 entry fee) and 1 mile and cumulative Half Marathon distances for juniors (both £15 entry fee which includes a donation to the Stripey Stork charity). Your chosen distance can be run at any time from 1st-30th September inclusive and you can enter here. I know that a few RPAC runners have already completed the virtual race.

Saturday Running Group

It's nice to see the Saturday Running Group continues to go from strength to strength. This group is formed around a nucleus of our Couch to 5K graduates but is open to all. Please contact Paul (if you want to join in.

The group meets in Priory Park at 10:30 each Saturday for a run and a coffee afterwards.
From Left to Right Paul Walters, Ken Packer, Naomi Jones, Sarah Walters.

Rungo

Well done to Jenny Barrett for being the only person to submit any evidence for completing any of the Rungo challenges.  If you haven't met her, Jenny is one of our Couch to 5K graduates.

Jenny writes "Whilst I was never going to complete sufficient tasks to win Jack's 'Rungo', I thought I would use them as a series of challenges. I did run three times a week for both weeks, ran round the lagoons at Watercolour, went for a 6am run and have just completed the 3 pub run. Good fun!"  Jenny didn't say whether she'd stopped for a drink in each of the pubs though.

Kate's Latest Achievements

Kate Knight continues to go from strength to strength and has had another busy week. She writes that she has recently done a trail marathon in 7 hours 49 minutes, her first sub 8 hour trail marathon for a few years and an improvement of 1 hour 15 minutes on last year. Unfortunately I do not have the details of where the marathon took place. She has also just completed the Virtual Run Reigate Half Marathon in 3:01:49 which is a new PB for her on that course by 10 minutes.

Visibility at Evening Training

As the nights are drawing in, we need runners who are attending evening sessions to consider wearing high visibility clothing.  We do have club branded hi viz bibs available on the iProSports club zone (https://www.iprosports.co.uk/club-zone/reigate-priory-athletic-club/) and are looking to offer new branded gear via this site shortly. Hi viz and torches are mandatory for the Wednesday evening session from The Sovereign Centre.

Our friends at Run Reigate have asked us to help promote the virtual races that they are running this year in lieu of the usual Run Reigate festival. There are 5K, 10K and Half Marathon distances for adults (all £15 entry fee) and 1 mile and cumulative Half Marathon distances for juniors (both £15 entry fee which includes a donation to the Stripey Stork charity). Your chosen distance can be run at any time from 1st-30th September inclusive and you can enter here

Rungo

As a bit of fun Jack Finn has come up with a "Rungo" board. It's  a combination of running and Bingo(!). The competition runs until Sunday 20th September. Try to complete a line or a column (or the whole "card"). Each item has to be completed on a different run. Let us know when you've completed a row or a column or indeed the whole card.

RPAC Athletes Back In Action

Eloise and Graham Bull competed in the Dorney Lake Weekend 10K at Eton Dorney on Saturday 5th September, finishing in 9th and 18th place respectively (2nd and 1st in their respective age categories).

Tom Almond, Freddie Roux and Lee Savage competed in the Run Through Battersea Park 5K on Sunday 6th September, finishing in 15th, 27th and 46th place respectively (13th, 23rd and 2nd in their respective age categories).

Well done to all of you firstly for finding races that were actually going ahead and secondly for your brilliant finish times.

Details of both races are in the Senior Road Race Results section of the website.

Ladies Running Group

Nat sent in a photo from the ladies group that runs together regularly on Sundays.

In case you don't know them, from left to right, front to back are Ginevra Stoneley, Eloise Bull, Gillian O'Regan, Angie Steadman, Nat Wilson and Jo Davey.

Missing from the photo are Jamilla Ncayiyana and Ruth Willis - presumably they were social distancing and didn't want to crowd the photo.

I do know that the group completed around 20km on Sunday at just over 5 minutes per km but I don't know whether this was taken before, during or after the run.

Well done ladies! I think Eloise deserves a special mention for having run with the group after finishing first in her race category in a 10k race on the previous day (see above).

Despite having had to wait until the end of the summer for their first competitions, Lilah, Oscar and Max managed to attain big PBs in their respective events.

Kempton Park 10K 14th November 2020

Jas has mentioned that some members are entering the 10K race at Kempton Park, which you can see here if you'd like to enter.

Saturday Morning Social running group

Last Saturday 12th September we ran the Park Run course in Reigate Priory. To be honest, I never thought I'd see the day when Kate Knight would overtake me over a Park Run course! Kate aced the course, completing the Park Run distance unofficially beating her best Reigate Park Run time by about 1.5 minutes. You can see details of the Saturday Morning Social running group here.

PBs at Kew Gardens 10K Saturday/Sunday 12th/13th September 2020

Congratulations to Jamilla Ncayiyana who attained a PB in a time of 42:06 on Saturday, and Doug Kington who also attained a PB with a time of 45:00 on Sunday. You can see the results here.

London Dock2Dock 5K Swim in the Thames Saturday 12th September 2020

Linda Rodriquez did not run a race this last weekend - but she did swim one!

Linda swam the London Dock2Dock 5K, in 1:50:42, making her the 34th woman and 4th in her age/gender category. She tells us that it was a lovely day for a race, and if she'd had an RPAC beanie, she would have worn it!

Club Kit

Club Branded Tee-shirts

Another plug for the club tee-shirts as they were so popular last time. Did you know that you can easily purchase a technical running shirt from the club's stock from the designs below?

As you can see these designs are available in three colours - Red, Dark Blue and Light Blue - and are for general running, training and social runs. Please note they are not suitable for events and races when representing the club. They are offered in men's, women's and youth sizes and cost £15.00 each (or £12.50 for youth sizes).

Just get in touch with us at  for your garment.

Thursday 27th August - Ian Martin's last coaching session

Last Thursday evening Ian Martin coached his last training session.

Ellis presented him with a card and suitable bottle of red wine, in the presence of his training group and members of the Committee.

As a club we will have a celebration for Ian where we can all show our appreciation when the rules on social gatherings allow this to happen.

Saturday Morning Social running group and Kate Knight's Fundraising for Sash charity

Kate turned up to the Saturday Morning Social running group on 29th August having had her event the South Coast Challenge 100Km cancelled. She had come on foot from home to find us, and then ran with us 5Km around Priory Park followed by coffee at the park cafe. When we dispersed, she went down Flanchford Road and continued throughout the day to cover 40 miles. On her return home she was very wet and cold so needed a few hours rest to get warmth back before carrying on to finish the 100Km by completing 22 miles on Sunday in thankfully drier conditions.

You can support Kate's fundraising for the Sash charity by clicking here, and you can see the details of the Saturday Morning Social running group here.

Senior Training Sessions

Ian Edmonds is this week (1st September) starting a 6pm Tuesday "Social Recovery Run", from Battlebridge, to allow more people to run with him with the current limit of 12. Initially simply turn up, we will assess if we need to restrict based on how many turn out.

You can see the participants of the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday coached sessions here. There are now more than 12 participants on each list, and going forward the numbers for each group will rely on participants occasional reasons for being an absentee from the group (such as holiday or injury) to limit the groups to 12 people per session. If you know that you can't make a particular session please try to let us know so that your place can be reallocated.

It's getting colder - consider buying a club long sleeved running shirt

As the weather becomes cooler you may wish to consider purchasing a club long sleeved shirt.

  • Moisture-adjusting, quick-drying, light-weight and comfortable
  • Zipped stand-up collar
  • Contrasting insets and flatlock seams
  • Reflective transfer at the back

For £24 we have these running shirts available for men and women on the iProSports club zone here
