Junior Section News

Surrey XC League,  Richmond Park,  Saturday 16th October from Dave Mills

The first of four Surrey XC League matches took place on Saturday at Richmond Park.

Running in warm sunshine (after heavy rain earlier in the day), the RPAC Juniors put in some exceptional performances.

In both the boys and girls races the U13's ran 3.2K with the U15/U17's running 4.7K.

The girls match saw us with only 2 U13 runners who counted for the team score, and both Isla Kinniburgh and Neve MacGregor ran strongly. We also had three non-scorers (U11's) with Florence Tombleston running an amazing race to finish in 8th place! Florence Shade and Charlotte Randall both put in excellent performances too.

In the U15G's we had our first four finishers constituting our A team with Ella Scrase,  Sophia Bryant,  Cara Koutzaroff-Richards and Jessie-Marie Martin coming 5th out of 11 clubs taking part. Imogen Abrahams and Pollyanne Stott ran well too to give us an additional B team presence.

As with the girls team, we were missing a number of athletes on the day and consequently had only two scorers in the U13B's race. Both James Beaty and Jason Skinner put in excellent performances.

The last Juniors race saw an exceptional performance from our combined U17/U15 boys team.
Led by Oscar Currey (2nd U17 home) and Samuel Stapley (2nd U15 boy), they took 1st place in the match with 18 clubs represented! And it was 1st place by 42 points!

Congratulations to the team who along with Oscar and Samuel included Euan Willis (4th U15), Will John-Cox,  Sam Rolaston,  Joe Walker,  Milo Seals and Joel Lawrence.

The next Surrey League XC match is on Wimbledon Common on Saturday 13th November.

Lilah has one to one Zoom meeting with Lord Coe from Dave Mills

Lilah Unwin who took the Gold Medals in the U15G'S 800m at both the Surrey County T & F Championships and the Surrey Schools Championships this summer (setting a new club record along the way), enjoyed a 40 minute one to one chat with Seb Coe.
Lord Coe is a 4x Olympic medallist who set nine outdoor world records in middle distance running. He is currently President of World Athletics.
Joining Lilah from his offices in Monaco (!) he very kindly gave Lilah many insights into successful middle distance running and even knew the Battlebridge track!

British Schools Modern Biathlon Championships from Dave Mills

Competing in the 2021 British Schools Modern Biathlon Championships at the University of Bath over the weekend,  Buddy Kedgley came first in his age group in the 800m run section with a very impressive time of 2.17.51.

In accordance with Power of 10 rules, Buddy moved from U13 Track and Field to U15 with effect from October 1st. Otherwise that time would have been a new U13B'S 800m club record! Really good result for Buddy, especially as we are out of season for track races.

Two RPAC athletes finished in the top 10 in this testing trail race yesterday. Charl Jordan finished 5th and Richard Friar in his first race in a RPAC vest, finished in 10th place. Adrian Grant, Michael Bashford and Victoria Stammars made up the RPAC complement. Moray Carey is listed in the results as the fastest V60 but this is incorrect as his place had been transferred to Adrian Grant's daughter Jenny but the results haven't caught up yet.
