Wednesday 23rd June Quad Kids - by Mike Gent

Reigate Priory AC participated in the Surrey Quad Kids competition at Guildford last Wednesday.

This is for year 5 and year 6 athletes. COVID decimated our team chances with 3 athletes having to drop out on the morning of the event, but there were a number of excellent individual performances. Mateo Mahop, from Year 5, came second overall in the boys competition, and Isla Kinniburgh 5th overall in the Girls competition. Lisette Matthews, from year 5,  was third overall in the Girls 600m. The evening ended on a high when we won the team relay event, having borrowed an athlete from Epsom.

Saturday 26th June - Lily B - Girls Track match - by Mike Gent

Saturday saw the first Lily B match of the year at Kingston. A small Reigate team came away with a number of excellent individual performances and a mass of PBs.

In the endurance races Eva Marsh won the U17 1500m with a new PB, Lilah Unwin and Ella Scrase ran strongly to be first and second in the U15 800m, with Florence Carter also running well taking 10 seconds off her PB.  Neve Macgregor ran a very determined race to be 2nd in the U13 1500m and in the U11 600m Lisette Matthews was first with a PB,  whilst Zara Wright posted an excellent time as well.

In the sprints Eve Goulding won the U13 100m, Lily Woodhams was 2nd in the U15 200m with a big PB, Eloise Matthews ran well in both the U13 100m and 200m, Kyra Pemberton and Holly Rice recorded PBs in the U13 200m, and Freja Kargbo and Zara Wright both won their races in the U11s.
In the field Kyra Pemberton was 2nd in the U13 long jump with a PB, where Eve Goulding and Eloise Matthews both jumped well in the U13s and Lily Woodhams in the U15s, all recording PBs. Lisette Matthews and Freja Kargo also performed strongly in the U11s Long Jump.

Sunday 27th June Youth Development League - Upper Age Group - by Ashley Burridge

Congratulations to George Evered on a new PB of 24.6s in the U17 200m at our YDL fixture in Lewes last weekend. Oscar Curry ran a solid 1500m with a season's best time of 4:19.6. George also ran in the 4 x 400 relay with an impressive split time.

Our team partners Holland Sports AC provided a large U17 contingent, some of whom enthusiastically competed in events for the first time as non-scorers.
It would be great to see more Reigate Priory U17 and U20 athletes at our next match on Sunday, 25 July in Brighton - a perfect warm-up for the Surrey County Championships the following weekend!

More information for the next match will be sent out via email nearer the date. In the meantime entries are now open for the County Champs at Kingston on 31July/1 Aug:

Surrey League cross country news - by Nat Wilson

The ladies Cross Country AGM took place this week with two notable changes

1) Two additional clubs applied to join both the men’s and ladies leagues and were unanimously approved. The two clubs are:

London City Runners
Optima Racing

They will not be competing in the junior races.

2) It was also unanimously agreed that the men’s and ladies Cross Country league would merge as it was agreed this is a far more efficient way for the future of the league. This shouldn’t effect the running of the leagues as such, more the management.

The dates for both men and women were also agreed for the 2021/22 season and are as follows

  • Saturday 16th October 2021 (Richmond Park)
  • Saturday 13th November 2021 (Wimbledon Park)
  • Saturday 15th January 2022 (Mitcham Common)
  • Saturday 19th February 2022 (Effingham Common)
The two emergency dates agreed where 4th December 2021 and 19th March 2022

Please do keep these dates free in your diaries. Further details will be emailed out nearer the time.

If anyone has any question regarding the above please contact...

Couch to 5K "Graduation" 10th July

Our Couch to 5k group has made really excellent progress and have less than three weeks until their "graduation". With the return of Parkrun being delayed we now plan to run three 1 mile laps in  Priory Park at 09:00 on Saturday 10th July.

It would be great if we could get a strong turnout of club members to run with the group to help support them and celebrate their achievement.

Surrey Slog Half Marathon 25th July

Please support this event which is staged by MABAC. Details are here.  As a MABAC member club we are required to provide some volunteers; please let me know if you are able to help . In the past it has been possible to volunteer for some roles and run the race.
