Round 2 of the 2021 Vets Track and Field League and a 1-2-3 for RPAC in the 200m!

Monday 5th July saw a fine bunch of RPAC athletes head to the Sutton arena for round 2 of the Vets Track & Field League.

A fun night was had by all with some stellar performances.

Triple jump was first up and Stephen Smith put on a fine performance finishing with an impressive 8.40m jump. He followed this up with a sterling effort in the javelin with a 24.09 throw.

The 1500m saw 3 RPAC runners take to the start. Tim Kimber ran a strong race with a finishing time of 5:09. Gillian O'Regan completed her debut track event in 6 minutes flat and Malcolm Woodman continued his comeback.

The 5000m was the most popular race for the RPAC Gang. Carmela Charalambous and Mike Pocock had a real battle with each other, with Carmela pacing herself well and just having that extra push to get her over the line in a super time of 21:13 with Mike just on her tail. David Neumann also put in a sterling effort with a great time of 22:12 and Annette Morris finishing first in her age category in an amazing 25:19.

We witnessed ANOTHER first place finish from Alistair Swanepoel (20:36) Well done, you're becoming a pro at this after round 1 in Kingston! Neil Fenwick had his debut on the track and ran a fantastic PB of 18:11. Duncan Mallison ran a strong race leading for most of the way, finishing in a superb 2nd place with a very impressive 17:49. Ginevra doing a fine job (as always) as the only female in her race and kept up with big guys.

The standout race of the evening saw a fast and exciting 200m race with Stephen Smith (32.3 secs) having a tremendous 1st place finish, followed closely behind by Ginevra Stoneley (33.0) in 2nd and a well deserved third place for Mike Pocock (33.9). Malcolm also competed in the 200m event (37.8). Well done guys, I think we can safely say RPAC owned that 200m race on Monday!

Sadly Angie Steadman couldn't take part as anticipated as she became injured on her warm up for the triple jump. Angie was saddened to miss out on the 200m too. Get well soon Angie, rest up!

Such a great night overall with some absolutely brilliant performances! If you haven't got involved already and would like to take part, there is a possible third fixture in September (to be confirmed). It's a friendly league and this year there is no scoring, so a great time to give it a whirl without any pressure!
