Senior news

Saturday 8th February Surrey League Cross Country Fixture 4

Saturday saw the fourth and final match of the 2019/20 Surrey Cross Country League. The ladies were running at Richmond Park.

The ladies took on a 2 lap, 5 mile course around the scenic Richmond Park in beautiful sun.

The team went into the last fixture 11 points outside of the relegation zone, missing two of their key runners, the task of remaining in division 1 was going to be tough. With a fantastic turnout for the club, the team dug deep to survive. Eloise Bull was first home for the team making a special journey back from Birmingham University and finishing in an impressive time of 34.30. Hot on Eloise heals was Ginevra Stoneley who was running with tired legs due to her intense marathon training finishing in 34.48. Jo Davey was in next, putting in a tremendous effort for the team in 35.24 followed by Ruth Willis 36.26 and completing the team was Sharon Brennan 37.14.

Despite a sterling effort, the team were relegated by 5 points. Nat Wilson led the B team home supported by Linda Rodriguez, Annette Morris, Clare Pryor, Sue Carnell and Kate Knight. Despite relegation, team manager Gillian O’Regan said how proud she was to be part of a team that had stayed in division 1 since 2003. Gillian said ‘we are now looking forward to a new challenge and some good competition in division 2 where we will set our sights high, fighting our way back to promotion’.

In the evening, awards were presented to Eloise Bull for the best senior lady performance and Ginevra received the cup for the best veteran lady performance. The Captains award this season went to Eloise Bull for her commitment to the team throughout the season.

The results have not yet been posted on our website, but you may see them on surreyleague.org.
