You need to be at least 11 years old on the day of the race to be a scorer in the match, but under 11's can run in the U13 races as non-scorers. We don't have to pre enter a team sheet so you can just turn up. However,  please let me know at  if you are thinking about running as I will need to have a number allocated to you.

A reminder that the first of the Surrey Cross Country League Matches is on Saturday 16th October in Richmond Park. The start time is 13:00. Further details will be emailed to you in a few days.

Berlin Marathon Sunday 26th September

We missed this last week. Doug Kington completed the Berlin Marathon in 3:58:58, knocking 36 minutes of his PB (hopefully I've got that correct). Well done Doug! Doug reports that it was very hot and it was difficult to find any shade before the start. Unfortunately there are no pictures of Doug as he travelled to Berlin on his own. Also running was Matt Aylott who ran a brilliant 2:38:36, taking nearly two minutes of his previous run at Berlin in 2019. Matt is a second claim athlete for us now; had he been running for RPAC this would have been a new club record for his age group.

Ed Prickett Memorial 5000m Race Wednesday 29th September

A team of 11 RPAC athletes travelled to K2 last Wednesday to compete with Crawley AC in the Ed Prickett Memorial 5000m Race. The RPAC team was led home by Max Smithson who finished in 5th place overall in 15:56. Full results are in the Senior Results section of the website.

Who was Ed Prickett? Ed Prickett was a former member of both RPAC and Crawley AC who was tragically killed whilst crossing the road in Tyneside in May 2004. At the time he was competing the British University Track and Field Championships at Gateshead Stadium where he had won his 5000m heat and was tipped to win the final. He was hotly tipped as a potential Olympic competitor for Beijing 2008

Stop Press: The following item was left at the start line and doesn't belong to any of the Crawley AC runners let us know if you recognise it

London Marathon Sunday 3rd October 2021

RPAC were well represented by a team of 13 runners (I hope that's right - it's tricky to find everyone!) and 29 volunteers at yesterday's London Marathon. Tom Almond and Mike Pocock set new club records (beating the records that they had both held previously) and there were a number of PBs and marathon first timers. Two RPAC runners completed the Virtual London Marathon event. Full details are in the article here

Dorney Marathon Sunday 3rd October 2021

Duncan Mallison and Carmela Charalambous took part in the Dorney Lake Marathon yesterday. Duncan finished in 3:11:42 and Carmela in 4:02:41. This was Carmela's first marathon and she reports that the last mile and a bit were a struggle! Well done to both of you!

Here is Carmela looking very happy at the finish.

Not the London Marathon - Saturday 2nd October 2021

Jenny Carus completed her first triathlon - the Warwickshire Sprint Triathlon in Stratford-Upon-Avon on Saturday. This involved a 400m swim, an 18K cycle and a 5K run. Jenny finished in 1:25 and managed a PB (27:59) in the 5K. Well done Jenny!

Meanwhile Jim Vince was back in action on Saturday, completing the Exmoor Coast 55km from Coombe Martin to Minehead.  It's not the flattest of routes with over 7000ft of ascent/descent (the equivalent of twice the height of Snowdon), but the coastal scenery was beautiful apparently. This was Jim's 101st event of marathon or more distance (I think that's right) and he finished in 9:56:30. Truly hard core Jim!

The Titsey Trail 10k from Moray Carey

The Titsey Trail 10k is a scenic, undulating off-road run organised by Oxted Runners and managed by Nice Work.

The 2021 edition takes place at 10am on Sun 17th Oct starting in the vicinity of Race HQ,  Limpsfield Chart Golf Club, Westerham Rd, Oxted, RH8 0SL

An impression of the course can be viewed on YouTube and the host club’s own description is:

"It is a single-lap run through the lovely woodlands of Limpsfield Common and the High Chart of Surrey and Kent. Most of the land is owned by the the Titsey Estate or National Trust. The course is almost entirely off-road along tracks, footpaths and bridleways, with a brief 200m stretch along a country lane. The first two kilometres are flat(ish), followed by some quite stiff drags (through lovely autumnal woodlands!) as you climb onto the beautiful, peaceful, wooded plateau of the High Chart, but no steep hills. After the first water stop at kilometre 4.5 there is a short loop through the woods that brings you back to the same water stop at kilometre 6. After that you can concentrate on enjoying a fast run back, dropping down off the Chart for the run home. The finish is on the same bridleway that you ran along at the start. "

Curiously, all adult finishers were given a bottle of beer in addition to a memento!  You can enter here.
